Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) - Local Query Module Configuration Selection
About the Alaska Local YRBS Dataset
-
This dataset provides representative data for school districts that met the minimum overall participation rate, as outlined below.
Non-representative prevalence estimates are provided when a school district did not meet this minimum overall participation rate or
when the user combines multiple school districts to generate an aggregate estimate.
This dataset should be used when the user wants to estimate school district or regional prevalence of high school student risk or
protective behaviors. This dataset should not be used when the user wants to estimate statewide prevalence. The local YRBS dataset
includes students in public traditional, alternative, and correctional high schools (excluding correspondence and home study schools).
Sampling, Weighting, and Analysis
-
Participation in a local YRBS is voluntary. As a result, data are only available for school districts that have chosen
to participate. The majority of Alaska school districts that conduct a local survey use a census sample design, which
allows every student in every eligible high school to participate in the survey. However, four urban school districts
administer the local traditional high school survey to students in randomly selected classes from all eligible traditional
high schools, rather than conducting a census sample.
The State of Alaska requires an overall response rate of 50% or greater in order to ensure that school district-level
results can be generalized to the student population within a district. When this minimum response rate is met, the school
district's data are weighted by grade and sex. This dataset contains both weighted and unweighted data.
Logit confidence limits are generated assuming complex sampling with replacement.
