Health care system factors that can continue to decrease stroke mortality include: [[br]]1. the identification and management of high blood pressure [[br]]2. the establishment of stroke transport protocols for emergency medical services (EMS) agencies [[br]]3. the certification of hospitals as Primary Stroke Centers, the designation of other stroke-ready hospitals as Stroke Receiving Facilities, and the use of telestroke to help hospitals provide prompt assessment and care of stroke patients [[br]]4. the implementation of stroke treatment guidelines, such as the American Heart Association's Get with the Guidelines--Stroke program, in hospitals throughout Alaska [[br]]5. the implementation of hypertension treatment protocols, such as the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology [[br]]6. improving access to effective care [[br]]7. improving the quality of care for the ABCS (Aspirin when appropriate, Blood pressure control, Cholesterol management, Smoking cessation) [[br]]8. focusing clinical attention on the prevention of heart attack and stroke [[br]]9. activating the public to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle [[br]]10. improving the prescription and adherence to appropriate medications for the ABCS
