Screening for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes is generally recommended for all people aged 45 and over, although those with a high risk of developing diabetes (e.g., overweight, first degree relative with diabetes, physically inactive, diagnosed with gestational diabetes, member of certain minority racial or ethnic groups) should start screening at age 18.
